Well, I knew it was coming, I just wasn't expecting it to take this long (ten whole months).

Last night Xbox Live flagged my console and banned me from online services due to my actions last spring. For those of you that weren't aware, I did some experimenting with torrenting games last fall, and it was pretty successful for the most part. I was able to play NBA: 2K11, Halo: Reach, Fallout: New Vegas, Fable III, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood all for a little over $20 worth of materials. It went well until Fable III came out and Microsoft issued a dashboard update for Kinect. This new software recognized the Fable III disk already inside the console as a fake, and my console was flagged. I was expecting a ban, but was surprised by the fact that I could still access Xbox Live.

Well, now it's ten months later and my console has been permanently grounded. As of now, THB acmaps FLAE will no longer be online. However, I may be graduating from console gaming soon and moving on to the PC, so it's not all that bad (side note, does anyone know when Revelations is supposed to come out on PC?). But I'm still considering buying a new Xbox, starting a new account, and getting another Live subscription (especially with Gears of War 3 on the horizon).

Moral of the story here is make sure if you plan to do something like this that you know everything possible before getting involved. I'm a complete noob when it comes to stuff like this, but got involved anyway and paid the price. I won't be on live for a while, but I'll still be on here.

Haha, damn that sucks. Hopefully we'll be able to see your new account sooner rather than later.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which

A lesson well learnt there, I think, FLAE. By the sounds of it you managed to do some pretty cool stuff but rules are rules; at least you aren't complaining.

As for AC: Revelations on PC, the current planned release date is 15th November - the same as the PS3 and Xbox 360 release date - but, as we know from the previous games, this could well be pushed back.

Ubisoft claims that in the past the PC release date was assumed by retailers, and that they never made any official release announcements until the correct date. This time they officially announced PC to drop on that day.

PC gaming is nice, just make sure you have a good rig to support your gaming for a while. Just be wary of using a mouse, the rotational mechanism is a bit off in Brotherhood (can't quite seem to free-run in a straight line...); it was perfect in AC2, though. Might not apply, as I assume you will just use a 360 Controller.

Do hope that you resume making awesome stunts with the new console.

Well that suck. Curiously, it happened to a friend of mine just a week ago, although it was for no apparent reason.
Anyway, hope you can get online soon FLAE, good luck.

PC gaming FTW! I'm finding it so hard to play on consoles these days after upgrading my PC. Brotherhood on max settings on PC looks like a next-gen game compared to the 360 and PS3 versions, and it performs better. And 360 controllers work beautifully right out of the box with Windows 7.

Best part is, PC gaming isn't so expensive these days. For around $400 you can build a very adequate gaming rig. That doesn't include a monitor, keyboard, mouse or speakers though. If you have an HDTV then you only need a mouse and keyboard. I prefer to splurge a bit on those, especially the mouse. I swear by Razer. But if you're a controller person, you can stick to the basics for mouse and keyboard.

FLAE, are you sure your Live account is banned? Have you tried logging on with it on an unbanned console? They rarely ban accounts, usually just consoles. I've certainly never heard of them doing both at the same time. You might just need a new 360 and be able to use your existing account.

I've had a couple banned consoles over the years and my account is still good. Had more red rings than banned consoles though. Tongue

I'll have to try this, but unfortunately I don't believe I can recover my gamertag to another console through Live (because of the ban) and I don't believe even with a physical transfer I can play the profile on another box (for some reason...).

You're right about the physical transfer (banned consoles corrupt the files) but you can still recover your profile on another console as long as the profile itself wasn't banned. You'd just lose any achievements you gained prior to your last time going online with said profile.

Fly Like an Eagle's picture

You can do that even with the inability to connect to Xbox Live?

No, you have to do it on an unbanned console. Or on a PC via Windows Live (same account).

I couldn't have gotten luckier.

So apparently there were a few people banned for no reason as a result of an error through a Microsoft Xbox Live update. That's why I was out of commission. To apologize for this, Microsoft has not only given me back online service, but also three free months of Xbox Live as well as 1600 Microsoft points! And just in time for Gears of War 3!

It's good to be back!

Great to hear you're back online!

I'm not going to mention terms like "Murphy's Law" and "Red Ring of Death" because that would be pessimistic. Wink

I was starting to wonder why you were online. Congrats FLAE. Smile
